How could this not have been the greatest invention ever? Think of the possibilities after the bacon grease dripped into the bottom of the toaster. You could make bacon flavored toast, bagels, waffles, english muffins, heck, you could even have bacon flavored pop tarts!
This was truly ahead of it’s time.
Thanks for the great find Karl.
While traveling to sunny San Diego last week, I came across this street sign and decided that we need to move ourselves to the corner of Bacon Street and Newport Ave. Not only is it a sweet street name, but it’s a couple of blocks from the beach and on the other corner, they sell bacon wrapped Hot Dogs!
This came across the e-mail today, and I got only one comment: I am trying them this weekend! They sound awesome! Please “ben the’reverend” send us pictures too.
like smores, but with bacon
no, not gimme some more bacon; no thank you, no more bacon- that was so delicious i can now die feeling my life is complete.
so you cannot do this one in the microwave, you will need a real wood fire.
2 strips bacon
1 large marshmallow
1 rectangle piece of chocolate bar
poke a hole through the marshmallow along the height axis (though the flat ends).
insert chocolate in marshmallow.
wrap 1 piece of bacon around the marshmallow at the same axis. hold temporarily with one finger.
wrap second piece of bacon perpendicular to the first to hold first piece in place.
insert toasting stick through the marshmallow so it pierces both free ends of the second piece of bacon.
toast until bacon is cooked to your desired cook-ed-ness of bacon, or until marshmallow begins to drip out.
be very careful not to allow the marshmallow to completely melt.
enjoy the wonderful combination of flavors, and the momentary stopping or your heart as you realize the fullness of this life altering experience.
As Mrs. Baconninja, I often find myself caught up in the desire to add bacon to all recipes just to see what works. The Forum recently featured a story about bacon and the author was kind enough to include two bacon recipes, both of which interested me. Tonight I tried the first one, dark chocolate bacon cupcakes. I failed to take sufficient photos of the process…actually I failed to take ANY pictures in my excitement to try this chocolately-frosted pork fat creation. Lucky for me Baconnija stepped in and managed to get one picture of the final product before he ate the subject of the photo. I plan to try this recipe again and pledge to provide sufficient photographs next time. If you were fortunate enough to try one of these creations (and you know who you are!) I am accepting critisim, constructive or otherwise.
So…I posted about a Bacon Chicken Garlic Pizza we had in Walker MN last weekend, well, we tried to duplicate it last night. Ours came out very close to what we had in Walker. The best thing about ours was the garlic flavor didn’t over power the bacon flavor.
…couldn’t drag me away from this bacon lunch.
On a side street of Fargo’s fabulous re-gentrified Broadway, a new beer and burger joint occupies a narrow and deep space reminiscent of East Coast Irish Pubs. Named in memory of a legendary local proprietor, JL Beers offers over 50 brews and serves the best bar burgers since the good ol’ days of Gert burgers at Mick’s Office across the river. (Sorry Mick’s, but they have gotten too thin.)
Three co-workers and I made our way there through the recently deposited snow drifts in hopeful search of comfort food. We found solace not on the wall of beer taps, but ironically enough in the Humpty Dumpty; a thick juicy burger topped with cheese, a fried egg and BACON!!! You can’t go wrong with that fairy tale combination. But unlike the nursery rhyme, this Humpty Dumpty will be put together again, and again, and again and…
On our way to Virgina MN for a hockey tournament we stopped at Village Square (http://www.villagesquarewalker.com/pizza.htm) in Walker MN. We ordered a Bacon Chicken Garlic pizza for the three of us. It was wonderful! The bacon was real bacon cut into squares, the garlic was fresh and very flavorfull. The pizza was some of the best I’ve ever had. This picture doesn’t do the pizza justice.
